Working out on the road

Here’s a question for three of you who read my blog: How can I keep my one set of workout clothes clean and stink free while traveling? The constraints being that I don’t check luggage, which means I can’t just bring more clothes and that there is a limit to the amount of liquid I can bring with me. This liquid limit is already maxed out, so if bringing some über special soap is the answer its going to be competing for space with things that keep me from stinking when not working out :)

No comments on this yet? Oi!

I solved the clothes on trip thing when I travelled to sci meetings for Upjohn. I’d just put the used clothes in the plastic bag in the closet and call room service. I’d leave for my day, and when I returned to the room in the afternoon there’d be my clean laundry! Pressed shirts!

    That’s my first suggestion.

But giving more thought to workout clothes … why clean them at all? Is the gym crowded? Do you want to get on that busy eliptical trainer? Just go into the little gym and hang out a bit with the stinky clothes on. In no time the room will empty! And if not, try storing the gym clothes in a zip lock bag with a bit of crusty cheese.

However, if you really want to clean up the sweaty clothes, just bring dry laundry detergent, like Tide. Why carry liquid detergent? You’re just transporting water! Dry powder is more concentrated, lighter, less filling …

However, if you wash your own, how do you get the togs dry? Hang’m in the shower, I guess. Or, if there’s an outdoor balcony, try that. Nothing like laundry flappin’ in the breeze to class up one of those downtown hotels!
